Still Writing/Editing...

Today has been a decent day...much cleaning of my room, pet sitting, and even finding a few treasures: my lost Social Security Card, and my digital camera's charging cord. Although I discovered that the track wheel on my digital camera which is used to move through all of the options menus is pretty much borked. I might try to add a bit of WD-40 to it with a cotton swab, but if that doesn't work, I might be in the market for a new digital camera.

Now I'm returning to my dissertation proposal...there is still much work to do before I turn it in tomorrow. I assume there will be 5-10 more drafts before it is finished, but I continue to be excited by the prospect. Let's hope that keeps up.

Parents Day...at Work?

I don't know how many of you live/work in this place they call the "Real World," but I sadly do work here; although I have a small condo on bachelor island.  Today I spent the first hour and a half cleaning the work trailer from top to bottom.  Why?  Well our company's regional safety inspector is arriving today and we have to make the place look spotless.

This reminds me of those "Parent Days" in college, where everyone's parents show up, and the entire dorm bands together, pretending to be civilized to the people who are paying for their educations.  All of the illicit videos are hidden; desktop backgrounds with naked women are replaced with kittens, kites, and pictures of mom; 31 cases of beer are placed under a grand total of 10 beds (often without the occupant's knowledge), and all of the thrash metal and gangster rap CDs are replaced with Barry Manilow and Soothing Sounds of Autumn.  Trust me, I fondly remember Parent's Day: it was one of those rare days where someone else was footing the restaurant bill...yet we always went for Monical's Pizza.

Anyway, today felt EXACTLY like one of those days from my past.  I cleaned like it was the only thing I had to do in this job, and my boss even helped.  I know when the safety inspector arrives we are going to be reamed for 10 things we were not even aware of, but at least I was able to relive my glory days...if only for a moment.  Hell I even changed my screen saver over to a picture of a kite, just for old time's sake.
